Resumen

A dialogue about design education and social impact, through the prism of the Global Grad Show in Dubai. This discussion centers on design’s evolution, new academic approaches, and students’ social innovation projects identifying local opportunities and needs that are often overlooked by the market.

Brendan McGetrick, Princeton University School of Architecture

Writer, curator, and designer. His work has appeared in publications in more than thirty countries. Projects include Content, MAD Dinner, and Urban China: Work in Progress. Curator of Unnamed Design, a component of the 2011 Gwangju Design Biennale, in collaboration with Ai Weiwei. Co-curator of the exhibitions Fair Enough in the Russian pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale, and of California: Designing Freedom at the Design Museum in London. Former chief writer at the research and design studio AMO. Since 2015, he has been the director of Global Grad Show.

Sebastián Ocampo, Centro de diseño, cine y televisión

BA from the Ecole National Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. Active member of Wanted Design New York. Tutor for the Young Creatives program of the National Fund for Culture and Arts in Mexico. Project Manager of Fundamento, working on reconstruction of houses after the earthquakes of September 2017, in collaboration with CENTRO and other institutions. Chair of CENTRO’s Industrial Design department and director of the Graduate Specialization course in Technologies of Material Transformation.
